"Tumshie" Neep Heid Lantern Candle

£15.00

Traditionally in Scotland the favoured vegetable for a Hallowe’en lantern was a turnip. Tough as old boots, turnip lanterns, or ‘tumshies,’ were often crude efforts due to the brutality it took to carve one. Luckily though, this made them even scarier, which was necessary for keeping the bogles at bay. Lighting a tumshie lantern was said to ward off evil spirts that were out and about when you went guising.

To save you carving a real one, try lighting this tumshie candle instead!

★ Scent Profile ★

Top notes of tobacco, honey, spices and fresh citrus. Heart notes of sandalwood. Base notes of amber, tonka bean, patchouli and honey.

Tumshie weighs in at 245g and is made from a beeswax & coconut wax blend. He stands at 11cm tall including the wick, which is made from braided cotton. His lantern handle is for decorative purposes only. If you plan to light him then I recommend cutting the handle off or folding it backwards away from the flame.

Tumshie is 100% handmade in Scotland, cast from handmade moulds of my original hand sculpted designs.
