New to Wax Melts?

Read on to discover everything you need to know about wax melts.

What are Wax Melts?

Wax melts are scented pieces of wax (without a wick) that can be used instead of candles to fragrance your home. Wax melts in the UK come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and smells. When heated gently over a tealight burner, the wax will melt into a liquid pool and release a powerful scent throughout your home. Once cooled the wax pool will harden again.

How do you use handmade wax melts?

You’ll need either a tealight burner or an electric burner to warm your coconut wax melts and release their scent. Simply add a melt (or break off a piece of your chosen snap bar) to your burners well. Place a lit tea light in the space underneath. An electric burner should come with simple instructions on how to use it. Now, simply watch the wax melt into a shimmery, galactic pool! You will notice our coconut wax melts produce a strong scent throw. Blow out the tealight or switch off the electric burner when you want to stop the fragrance release. For more information on how to use wax melts read our blog or FAQs!

Are Perrywinkle wax melts vegan?

Yes, all of our wax melts and snap bars are vegan, cruelty-free and eco-friendly.

What are Perrywinkle’s vegan wax melts made of?

Our wax melts are made from sustainable coconut wax. Coconut wax is even more eco-friendly than soy wax because it’s derived from a renewable, high yield crop. Coconut wax has a cleaner burn than alternative waxes and is non-GMO. No fossil fuels are required to make it unlike paraffin wax. Coconut wax holds an impressive fragrance load and has a superior hot and cold scent throw. So you can enjoy the stronger scent without worrying about the environment!

How long do vegan wax melts last?

Our unique handmade wax melts are bigger than average size snap bars so they will last you longer. You only need about a thumb sized piece of wax to achieve a deliciously powerful scent, and even after the wax has cooled and re-hardened in your burner, you can still melt it again until the scent has gone. This means you can further extend the life of your wax melts and reduce waste. Ideally you shouldn’t re-melt your wax more than 3 times for an optimum scent throw. We advise to not use your burner continuously for longer than 4 hours, and if your melted wax starts smoking blow out the tealight/turn off the electric burner immediately and safely dispose of the wax.

Do wax melts lose their scent if not used?

Our vegan coconut wax melts should be used with 12 months of purchase to get the most out of their scent. Our unique handmade wax melts are works of art—remember to store them somewhere cool and dry, and out of direct sunlight to keep them looking their best!

How can I clean my wax burner and change wax melts?

To clean your wax burner and change melts when the wax is still liquid, use cotton balls to absorb leftover wax. Wipe up any residue with a paper towel, then add your new wax melt. If the wax has hardened in the burner, either turn on the electric burner or use a tealight to heat the wax enough so that it loosens. You should be able to gently pop the wax disc out of the wax burner once it’s a little warm. Wipe any leftover residue with a paper towel, then add your new wax melt.

My products have frosting. Are they still safe to use?

The appearance of frosting, fading, or a ‘white bloom,’ is a sign of 100% natural wax. It does not affect the function of the product and it is still safe to use. Frosting is particularly noticeable on black wax due to the colour contrast, but it is nothing to worry about.
